Beagles being fostered through The Beagle Club of NSW
(Updated 14/7/08)

These are older beagles that have either been surrendered to the Club because their owners (for a genuine reason) have to quickly find a home for them or have been rescued from a Pound or Shelter and are now being fostered by through the Club. These beagles will have been vet checked to ensure they are in good health and are fully vaccinated and will also have spent some time with their foster families to determine their suitability for adoption.

A huge than you to our foster families - without you the Club could not help these beagles. If you think you might be interested in helping out with short-term fostering then we would love to hear from you. Please contact the Rescue Co-ordinator for details (click on link).

Honey
Updated 14 July 2008

Honey is a 5 year old desexed tri-colour female.
She was rescued from Hawkesbury Pound where she had been surendered by her owners as they were moving interstate. Honey was not desexed and has had puppies recently. She is now desexed, has been health checked and fully vaccinated.

Here is what Carolyn, her foster carer says about her:

She is a very sweet girl and despite my original misgivings that she was reluctant to come inside, she now seems very comfortable with it to the point that she spends most of her time indoors as does Barney. When we put them out she will come and scratch at the door but stops when you tell her no. She will do the same inside if you exclude her from the room you are in. She happily curls up on her little bed in the lounge room but will jump up on your chair if you leave it and really loves to get up beside you and snuggle. She loves to find some cushions or pillows and rearrange them as though she is nesting and will then curl up on them quite contentedly for some time.

Honey rarely barks - we have heard 2 or 3 and they were inside not out. She slept out in the kennel on her first night and was very well behaved. She is house-trained but doesn't know any other commands that we can see but she is getting better in coming when called though typically obstinate on occasions. Loves her meals and takes food very gently by hand. Loves chicken and cheese.

It has become more apparent that she has been an inside dog and would need a situation where this continued. She is a small, very happy dog that thrives on kindness, company and love and would suit an older couple as she is not boisterous, likes to curl up often and when walked behaves very well if you allow her the odd opportunity to stop and "smell the roses". We have left them alone and haven't had any advice of barking. She hasn't dug holes or chewed anything. While she and Barney are fine most of the time she has twice shown jealousy when he has come too close to me while she is near.

It may be that given time Honey will adjust to sharing her life with another dog however, because of the jealousy issues, she has shown to Barney her foster-sibling, it is felt that she would be better rehomed in a home where there are no other dogs.

If you are interested in adopting Honey please fill in the on-line form below

Owned by Beagle Club Members
(Updated 19/7/08)

Occasionally there are older puppies & adult beagles available FOR SALE that have been bred or are owned by Beagle Club members, they are NOT rescue dogs so please do not waste our members time by asking if they are FREE.  They will be registered with either Dogs NSW or another state canine control organisation (have papers), are microchipped, wormed, fully vaccinated and in most cases, desexed. If they are not yet desexed, the breeder will require you to have the dog desexed at the appropriate age, as they are not being sold for breeding.

THE FOLLOWING BEAGLES ARE NOT RESCUE BEAGLES

Pearl is a 7½ month old desexed tan & white girl.

Pearl is very well socialised, but is still in the cheeky puppy stage! I think she would fit into a family situation (older children) not toddlers or a older couple who would like to be adored by this lovely girl!

Charli is a lovely playful and friendly dog. She is certainly out of the puppy stage and was never a digger. She enjoys lots of company, walks and playing but also enjoys sunbakes. She likes being a part of what is going on. She is prone to getting excited at new visitors but quietens down fairly fast once she is used to new people. She follows basic commands ie sit, drop, stay. She likes to explore outside her yard off her lead, but will come back when encouragingly called but needs to be walked on a lead. She would enjoy the company of a family with lots of time to give her or another dog for company.

Listed 1 July 2008

Bobby's details:

Age: 2 years
Sex: Male
Description: Tri-colour
Registered with Dogs NSW: No
Microchipped: Yes
Last vaccinated: July 2006
Reason for rehoming: We are unable to provide adequate fencing in our current home so, after many escapes from the yard, we now need to tie Bobby up. With this, and due to the arrival of a new baby and living in a very cold climate town, we are unable to give Bobby the exercise and stimulation that he needs and deserves. There is also the possibility that we will need to relocate overseas in the near future.
Health: No problems
Temperament: No Problems
Used to Children: Yes, we have a 14 month old son and a newborn baby, whom Bobby has lived with since their birth. He has always been very patient and gentle with our children and has been a great friend for our toddler.

Obedience training: Simple training of sit / wait / off / walk
Owner's comments : Very sociable, he loves people and other dogs. A loving and intelligent dog, loves being part of the family and is quick to learn. Is also mischievous and energetic and a bit naughty when bored or lonely.

Bonnie's details:

Age: 4½ years
Sex: Female (desexed)

Registered with Dogs NSW: Yes
Microchipped: Yes
Last vaccinated: August 2007
Reason for rehoming: Kids have lost interest & she is lonely

Temperament: No Problems
Used to Children: Yes, lived with children 14,11 & 9 years
Good with other Dogs: A little timid when initially meeting a new dog but quickly initiates play. She would love a permanent canine friend.
Used to Cats: No
Allowed Indoors: No
Housetrained: No
Obedience training: She has been trained to sit and stay until we tell her to take her food. She is good on a lead, knows how to heel and sit.
Owner's comments : Bonnie is a lovely girl who we are re-homing only due to the fact that we don't spend enough time at home and she is lonely. She loves a daily walk so she can have a good sniff around the neighbourhood. She would be thrilled to have a canine friend around all the time to play with. She would suit a home with older kids. Like most beagles she loves her tucker and although she wouldn't suit being indoors all the time she likes nothing more than coming in and hoovering up the crumbs under the dining table!

With the right handling he can be walked off lead as his recall is good as long as you keep his attention.

Lucky knows how to sit, stay, come, heel, drop. He has also learnt to go to the toilet (even though he is an outdoor dog), provided he goes on a walk half hour after his meal.
Owner's comments : Lucky is a beautiful looking beagle who is loveable and really full of energy. Lucky learns very quickly and shows lots of intelligence, consequently though will test you if he knows he can get away with it... However, he will do anything for food rewards and loves to play (shakes hands, fetch, plays hide n seek with toys and treats). Lucky has a real colourful and loyal personality that we love, and we will really miss the little guy. Lucky would be great in an environment where there is always a lot of attention, playtime and activity.

Blue
Updated 23 July 2008

A Little Bit About Me...

My Name is "Blue"
Animal ID: 120473
Please take note of the Animal ID before contacting us
Shelter Tag Number: 004 6135
Colour: Tri
Age: 8 Months
Gender: Male (Desexed)

My health has been checked.
My vaccinations are up to date.
My worming is up to date.
I have been microchipped.
I have received a behavior evaluation.

My new owner should have a sound knowledge of the behaviour characteristics of my breed. I am best to go to a home with another dog and/or with an owner who is often home, as I need company. I can be vocal, & a little anxious when left alone. Best with a fit active owner. My yard needs to be secure, requiring fences & gates that are in good condition made of solid material, free of gaps, must be flush to the ground, a minimum of 5 foot in height. I am active & inquisitive, & needy for company & don't like to be excluded or just left in the yard. Do NOT let me off lead in unsecured area, I am very scent orientated & will become absorbed in sniffing & following the scent, not worrying where I am heading & may quickly become lost. I seek out playtime with my family members & I love to play with soft toys. I am very social with other dogs. I enjoy playing with soft toys running with people & will jump up with excitement. No Pocket Pets will chase. Owner to have sound Breed Knowledge
