The Breed Information and Snoopy Fun Day which was held on Sunday 22nd October was judged to be a great success by everyone who attended. The weather gods were very kind to us as the rain held off and though it was a bit breezy, it turned out to be a very pleasant day.

There was a bit of a disagreement between a couple of the beagles early on and Byron got a nip on his ear but Nurses June and Jan soon had him feeling a little better. I am sure he was lapping up all the attention too! This served as a reminder to all those present that though beagles are generally good-natured little dogs, there are occasions when dominance can cause problems. That's why we stress that all beagles are to be kept on leads at all times and that owners must always be vigilant when there are several beagles gathered together.

At a rough count by the end of the morning, there were over 130 people and accompanying beagles in attendance. It was a great sight seeing so many beagles of all shapes, colours and sizes - all obviously enjoying the day and being able to sniff each other and make new friends.

Following a welcome from the President, Gwenda Golding, there was a talk on the Sniffing Around Sydney Walks given by John New, the Walks Co-ordinator.

We were then treated to a wonderful exhibition by the AQIS Beagle Brigade. A huge thank you to Dee, Mark and "Blue" for coming along and showing us what a wonderful job these beagles are doing at the airport by helping to stop the illegal import of plants and food that could have a disastrous effect in Australia.

Everyone then moved to the Obedience ring that had been set up to see Pam Murphy with "Plugger" and Cecily Gwynne with "Ebony" give a wonderful demonstration. Hopefully some of the new (and some not so new) beagle owners learned that their beagles can be trained!

The crowd was then divided into four groups for the talks on Grooming and General Care (Leanne Coffey), Health Issues (Bev James), Feeding (Carole Woolcock) and training/obedience (Pam Murphy) though it seemed that most wanted to hear the grooming and training/obedience talks! While the rotation between talks did not happen those that had questions approached the speakers privately and hopefully had their questions answered. This will need to be addressed for the next Breed Information Day.

The games were ably organised by Leanne Coffey and were very hotly contested! This time those watching got to decide the winners of the Fancy Dress and it was great to hear the cheers and claps for the crowd favourites. Congratulations to all the winners and place-getters, even though some of you may not have won a prize you still got to go home with the best beagle/s!

At the end of the games there was a chance to have beagles weighed (thanks to JP, the Purina representative who came along on the day) and heights measured (thanks to Don James).  I wonder how many beagles passed the "pinch" test???

A huge thank you to all the Committee that were there on the day. Everyone worked together very well and certainly helped make the day the success it was.

Thanks to our photographer on the day- Ross Reid!
